DEEP Concludes Successful Training Workshop for Community Mobilization Officers
Liberia, December 21, 2024
The Diversified Educators Empowerment Project (DEEP) proudly announces the successful conclusion of a two-day training and onboarding workshop designed for five newly appointed Community Mobilization Officers (CMOs). This initiative, part of the USAID TESTS Activity in collaboration with RTI and supported by the people of the United States, aimed to equip CMOs with the essential knowledge and skills necessary for their vital roles in enhancing early childhood education (ECE) and primary education in their respective counties.
Participants included Ms. Dorris Kerkulah from Margibi County, Alex Tutu Yarkpawolo from Montserrado County, Joseph K representing Bong County, G Isaac Gardi from Grand Bassa County, and Prince Gaye from Nimba County. The training, facilitated by RT’s Senior Community Engagement Director, Mr. Lebah Bingo, and TESTS Project Manager, Rufus Jackson Looh, focused on providing a comprehensive understanding of the USAID TESTS Activity, DEEP’s organizational policies, and professional codes of conduct.
The workshop had three primary objectives: to prepare CMOs for active engagement with parents, caregivers, and community leaders; to enhance interprofessional communication skills; and to familiarize participants with the reporting tools and protocols related to the TESTS project. Through interactive methodologies, participants engaged in group work and practical exercises that promoted real-time learning and knowledge application.
Key topics covered included community mobilization methodologies, documentation practices, DEEP’s community entry policies, strategies for effective coordination, report writing, and evaluation techniques. The facilitators emphasized the importance of community ownership, encouraging Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to take the lead in fostering educational commitment.
Results from the training’s testing and evaluation processes indicate that all five CMOs have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively fulfill their responsibilities. Their readiness to engage communities and promote educational initiatives is expected to yield significant improvements in parental understanding and support for ECE and primary education enrollment and retention.
“Investing in our Community Mobilization Officers is essential for the success of the TESTS Activity,” said Mr. Bingo. “By empowering these individuals, we are not only enhancing their professional capabilities but also strengthening the community’s commitment to education.”
The DEEP team is confident that the skills acquired during this training will lead to increased community involvement in education, ultimately benefiting children’s educational outcomes across Liberia.
